How much has been contributed to Iowa City’s schools?
Since we began the partnership with the schools, the RFTS has raised over three-quarters of a million dollars ($754K); $420K from ICRR. The race has raised more than $50K in each of the past 6 years and 9 of the last 10.
In 2017, the race raised over $70K and returned over $8K to individual school buildings through participation awards.
What exhibitors will be at the Expo?
Hy-Vee, Dr. Dan Fog (DPT) and Fin and Feather.
Can I change the race I am registered for and, if so, how late?
Only on Saturday, at the registration table. There are no changes on race day and no refunds.
What is the race date and time?
Sunday October 14, 2018.
Half mile 8:00 AM, one mile 8:15 AM, 5k/10k/half marathon all start at 9:00AM.
What are registration costs, deadlines?
Registration costs are the lowest before September 30. September 30 is also the deadline to get a t-shirt. For further fees, check the website, runfortheschools.com.
How will I know if the race is cancelled due to weather issues?
Notifications will be made through Facebook and Twitter.
Are there storage lockers for securing my personal items?
There are some lockers at the Robert A. Lee Recreation Center.
Are showers available?
Showers are available in the Robert A. Lee Recreation Center. You will need to bring your own towel.
Where are bathroom facilities?
Robert A. Lee Recreation Center has several bathrooms and a locker room. There will be several Porto-Potties at the start/finish area as well as one near the half marathon turn-around.
When is packet pickup? Can I have someone pick up my packet?
Packet pickup is Saturday, October 13, 2018 from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM and Sunday, October 14, 2018 from 6:30 – 7:30 AM at the Robert A. Lee Recreation Center. Your race packets may be picked up in the lower level (find your race number and proceed to the back corner of the gym).
Yes, you can have another person pick up your packet.
Where are the water stations?
There are water stations at least every two miles along the course.
Will sports drinks, or energy gels, be available on the half marathon course?
There are no energy gels, but there are three water stops on the half marathon course where Gatorade is available.
Where do I park?
There are parking ramps at the corner of Burlington street and Linn street, as well as on Washington street between Gilbert and Linn streets. In addition, outside of the race route, parking on the streets is free on Sundays.
I missed the t-shirt deadline. Can I still get a shirt?
There are no t-shirt guarantees after the September 30 deadline.
What if I don’t want a t-shirt?
Great, the money saved will be applied towards the total donation.
When and where are results posted and is there an awards ceremony?
Hard copies are posted on the west entrance of Robert A. Lee Recreation Center ASAP. Electronic posting of results will be found on runfortheschools.com. Medals are given to the top male and female finishers in all age groups for the timed races. Unclaimed medals can be picked up at MidWestOne Bank, 102 S. Clinton St., Iowa City, IA. There will not be an awards ceremony.
Are all races chip timed?
5K, 10K, and half marathon races will be chip timed. The half mile and one-mile fun runs will not have published times, although the race clock will be running for each race.
What if I forgot to return my race chip?
Race chips need to be returned at the conclusion of the race. Participants not returning a chip will be charged $35. You can either return or mail your chip to MidwestOne Bank, 102 S. Clinton St., Iowa City, IA 52240 if you don’t return it at the finish line on race day.
Are strollers and dogs allowed on the course?
Strollers are allowed, but dogs are strongly discouraged.
Can I support a specific school?
All entrants are encouraged to write in a specific school during the registration process. As a result of selecting a specific school, your school receives participatory credit and, potentially, awards.
Are there any changes in the race course?
All courses are the same as previous years.
